This is our last record. We did about a year or so after we finished this and we kind of ground to a halt! WHY WHY WHY? I dont know. Myself, Blake and Murphy had been jamming pretty much every week since august 1997, thats like 9 or ten years yeah! John started putting out records as The 5 String Drop Out a couple of years after we split and one by one four of us came in to play John (and eventually Blakes) songs. It was a very different band in alot of ways, but yeah, i digress, thats another story!!
This was our first proper record with Dan in the band. He joined to play percussion on one song and somehow became the second vocalist! God knows how, it just happened! 6 of us!! We were like a punk rock orchestra!! Dans energy and lyrics and vocals really gave it another feel and gives it some more depth, i do think his lyrics are awesome! And the song titles on this one rule hard as fuck!! By this point we had gone very full on and it was about making the songs tight and fast and frantic! again, dont know why, we just evolved in that direction! When we listened back to it once it was finished I think we were all really shocked how good it sounded!! My Kit was stripped back loads for this and i had no toms on my drums ( i did have one while recording one song though i think!) and it was just snare, bass drum, hi hat and cymbal. It made me play better than on any other Arcade record and it forced me to focus on being a good drummer and not get all mental with the drum fills and stuff. I don't cringe at myself at any point while listening to this one! It was all recorded live, except for vocals, and it sounds all the better for it! Good old Steve Perry, what a dude!
When i listen to it now, 12 freaking years later, i realise how great we could of been. I know thats arrogant but fuck it yeah. I blimmin love this EP. It reminds me of the time and how cool it felt to be in Arcade. There was no one else like us . If only we had made one more record, the songs we had written for the next one were super good!
